Watch the Tutorial:

Hey, stitchers!

Calling all BTS fans and crochet lovers! If you're obsessed with BT21 and have a soft spot for the quirky, lovable alien Tata, then you're going to adore this project. With his bold heart-shaped head and curious personality, Tata makes the perfect companion for your bag, keys, or desk decor.

Today, I'm walking you through a step-by-step crochet tutorial to make your very own Tata keychain. It's beginner-friendly, fun, and full of character. So grab your yarn, hook, and ARMY energy — and let’s get started!

Materials Needed:

  • Alize Cotton Gold yarn (Red, Yellow)
  • 2.5mm crochet hook
  • 6mm safety eyes
  • Yarn needle
  • Embroidery thread (Black, White)
  • Embroidery needle
  • Scissors
  • Stuffing
  • Keychain ring

Abbreviations:

  • SC - Single Crochet
  • INC – Increase
  • DEC – Decrease
  • STS – Stitches
  • SLST – Slip Stitch

Tip: Use a stitch marker on the first stitch of each round to help you keep track!

First Bump (Red Yarn):

  1. Round 1: 6 SC in a magic ring = (6 STS)
  2. Round 2: 6 INC = (12 STS)
  3. Round 3: (SC, INC) x 6 = (18 STS)
  4. Round 4-5: SC in each ST = (18 STS), 2 rows

Cut the yarn and set aside.

Second Bump (Red Yarn):

  1. Round 1: 6 SC in a magic ring = (6 STS)
  2. Round 2: 6 INC = (12 STS)
  3. Round 3: (SC, INC) x 6 = (18 STS)
  4. Round 4: (SC, SC, INC) x 6 = (24 STS)
  5. Round 5-6: SC in each ST = (24 STS), 2 rows
  6. Round 7: Join the two bumps—insert your hook into the stitch next to where you cut the yarn on the first bump. SC all around (18 + 24) = (42 STS)

Now they are connected, forming the head!

  1. Round 8: SC in each ST = (42 STS)
  2. Round 9: (SC, SC, SC, SC, SC, DEC) x 6 = (36 STS)
  3. Round 10: SC all around = (36 STS)
  4. Round 11: (SC, SC, SC, SC, DEC) x 6 = (30 STS)
  5. Round 12: SC all around = (30 STS)
  6. Round 13: (SC, SC, SC, DEC) x 6 = (24 STS)
  7. Round 14: SC all around = (24 STS)
  8. Round 15: (SC, SC, DEC) x 6 = (18 STS)

Start stuffing the head.

  1. Round 16: SC all around = (18 STS)
  2. Round 17: (SC, DEC) x 6 = (12 STS)

Insert the safety eyes between Rounds 12-13, spaced about 3 stitches apart (count from the second bump, which is the bigger one).

  1. Round 18: SC all around = (12 STS)

Add more stuffing as needed.

  1. Round 19: 6 DEC = (6 STS)

Weave in the tails and close the hole securely.

Leave a long tail for sewing. Weave in the tail through the front loops of the last 6 stitches, pull tight, and secure it. Use the tail to close any gaps between the bumps.

Mouth (Yellow Yarn):

  1. Chain 3
  2. SC into the 2nd chain from the hook, SC into the next chain
Cut yarn, secure ends, and sew just below the eyes.
Use black embroidery thread to add brows and small facial details for Tata’s curious expression.

Final Assembly:

  1. Sew the Facial Features: Position the mouth and embroider facial features using black thread.
  2. Add the Keychain Ring: Sew or clip it to the top of Tata’s head securely.

And just like that, your charming Tata keychain is ready to add a splash of color and personality to your everyday essentials!
