Misha Crochet Bag Pattern

The Misha Bag – A Beginner-Friendly Crochet Tote Pattern

Lately, I’ve been really into mesh stitching.

Maybe it’s because it’s simple and relaxing to do. If you’ve been following my posts, you’ve probably noticed I haven’t been very active with blogging, posting, or even vlogging. Life has been a bit hectic, and I’ve just been catching up with things. I’m trying to be gentle with myself, my goal now is to finish at least one or two projects each month.

So this is Misha, my perfect summer OOTD bag. She’s my latest creation from August 2024! 🌸
My goal is to design and release a new bag each month and share it with you as soon as it’s ready. And as you may notice,I haven’t quite kept up. Life happens, and I’m really trying my best.
For now, this is the only one I have to show you, so please bear with me, and stay tuned for more 💕

It took me a while to share this because I struggled to choose a name. At first, I wanted to call it “Elvan,” inspired by my favorite character from the Turkish series The Ambassador’s Daughter, which I was watching while making this bag about two months ago.

But once it was finished, “Elvan” didn’t seem to match the vibe of the bag. So, I randomly picked another name from my list, and that’s how “Misha” was born. Don’t worry though, I’m keeping Elvan in mind for another project. 🌷💕

Originally, this was supposed to be a floral mesh design, but for now, I decided to keep it simple. I just really love how it turned out. Maybe I’ll tweak it in the future, but for now… I’m letting myself appreciate it just as it is. 😍

The Misha Bag is a versatile, stylish tote that's perfect for everyday use or as a thoughtful handmade gift. It’s beginner-friendly, yet creates a polished, professional-looking piece that you’ll be proud to carry or even sell at craft fairs!

Made with soft cotton yarn and featuring a mesh design with comfy straps, this bag is lightweight but sturdy ideal for carrying essentials with ease.

Let’s start stitching!

🌸 Materials

        Yarn: 2 skeins DK/lightweight cotton yarn (Weight 3), approx. 273 yds / 250 m each
                - Maroon
Hook: As recommended on your yarn label
Other tools: Stitch markers (or bobby pins), tapestry needle, scissors

🌸 Gauge

        16 stitches x 8 rows = 4" x 4" (in dc mesh pattern)

🌸 Finished Size (approximate)

Base: 29.5 cm long × 8.5 cm wide (11.6 × 3.3 in)

Body (excluding straps): 27.5 cm wide × 20 cm tall (10.8 × 7.9 in)

Total Height (including straps): 46 cm (18.1 in)

🌸 Abbreviations (US Terms)

        ch – chain
        ch1-sp – chain-1 space
        dc – double crochet
        dec – decrease
        sk – skip
        sl st – slip stitch
        sp – space
        st – stitch

🌸 Notes & Tips

    Pattern uses US crochet terms.

The bag is crocheted in joined rounds, without turning.

We start with a rectangle base, then work upward in mesh stitch.

Beginning ch-4 in each mesh round counts as 1 dc + 1 ch.

For a bigger size, add more chains to your foundation chain in multiples of 2.

No stitch markers? Use bobby pins or safety pins instead!

🌸 Pattern Instructions 🌸

🌸 Bottom/Base

Foundation Chain: Ch 44.

Round 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook (counts as dc + ch 1), ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch repeat across.
In last ch, place 3 dc (for turning corner), rotate and continue on the other side of the chain: ch 1, skip 1, dc in next across. Place 3 dc in final corner. Join to the 3rd ch of beg ch-4. Do not turn.

Rounds 2–5: Ch 4 (counts as dc + ch 1), dc in next dc, ch 1 around, placing 3 dc in each corner dc to maintain the rectangle shape. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch-4.

You now have a rectangular base!

🌸 Body

Round 6: Ch 4, skip next ch-sp, dc in next dc, ch 1 around. Join with sl st to 3rd ch.
Rounds 7–13: Repeat same pattern for mesh body: ch 4, dc, ch 1, around. Join each round with sl st to 3rd ch.
Fasten off at the end of Round 13.

🌸 Seaming

Fold the body in half and align stitches.
With right sides facing, sc across the top edge, placing 3 sc in each corner.

Continue to sc evenly along both long sides and short edges, with 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st to beginning sc. (You should have around 132 sc, depending on your tension.)

🌸 Straps

Marking:
Fold the bag in half along the foundation chain. Mark both ends and count 11 stitches to the left and right of each side. Place markers at those four points—this is where your straps will begin.

Strap Row 1: Attach yarn to one marked stitch. Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch), dc, ch 1 until 2 stitches remain, dc2tog over last 2 sts (21 stitches total).

Rows 2–9: Ch 2, turn. Dc, ch 1 across until last 2 sts, dec.
(Your rows will reduce from 21, 19, 17… down to 5.)

Fasten off. Repeat for second strap.

🌸 Finishing

Join strap ends using slip stitch or whip stitch. For a flat seam, slst in back loops only.
Weave in any remaining ends.

All Done!

Your Misha Bag is ready for sunny strolls, daily errands, or gifting to someone special. It’s functional, cute, and totally handmade by you!
